Project 365: Week 21

7 months, 23 days old

His pincher grasp is pretty good so far. We're working on the feeding himself still. Everything non-food, he puts in his mouth. Everything food, he plays with.

Barrett's bath letters must taste great. He knaws and knaws on them.

05-23-12
05-23-12web
This week we've got ourselves a stomach sleeper. I will lay him down and within seconds he's flipped. I knew he would do it eventually.

05-24-12
05-24-12web
Whenever B plays on the floor, he puts his heels together like this. It's these little things that make this project the best. I will always remember him doing this kind of stuff.

05-25-12
05-25-12web
Bubs had blueberries with dinner tonight.

Looks like Barrett is going to be a water baby. He just loves it. Today, he was in the water for almost 2 hours straight and was happy as can be. It may have to do with the constant attention he gets though. :)

05-27-12web
Another day spent in the pool. B was so worn out that he took a 2 1/2 hour late afternoon nap and still went to bed at 6:15.

Project 365: Week 20

7 months, 16 days old

05-14-12

Barrett has been eating, or more like sucking, on avocado chunks quite a few nights this week. He's getting much better with finger foods.

05-15-12

It actually pained me to put this on him. I'm slowly trying to convert Joe to the northside.

05-16-12
05-16-12web
I was home with sick B today. No less than 3 times while at the pharmacy did people comment on our "matching" outfits. It was a total accident and after realizing we matched, I felt like weirdo. Just say no to matching outfits.

05-17-12
05-17-12web
You can't tell by this picture but Bubs is completely scared of this toy. I have to sit next to him and pretend this toy is the end all of toys. He stares at it, then give me his puppy dog eyes that says he is not okay with this thing so close to him.

05-18-12
05-18-12web
The kiddo and I went for a run tonight while Joe was mowing. He kicks and kicks his feet while I run, as opposed to crossing his feet when I walk. I think it's hilarious.

05-19-12
05-19-12web
We sat outside pretty much all morning today. I brought out this basket of toys for us to play with and B ended up using it as a toy!

05-20-12
05-20-12web
It was a hot hot day so I thought a dip in the pool would be good. I barely blew the pool all the way up and only put about an inch of water in it but the kid was beside himself with excitement. We spent over an hour sitting in it playing.

"Daddy"

7 months, 14 days old

I'm sure it comes as no shock to some of you that I'm a bit of a control freak. I'm a list maker, scheduler, constant planner. When B was born, that kicked into gear ten fold because I not only had to take care of myself, but also take care of this little person. Some have a newborn and their lives are thrown for a loop. Yes, that happened to me but in a different way. It actually fed my need to control. I feel like those first 3 months I was constantly "clockwatching." My life revolved around a 3 hour time span. And in some ways, it still does.

As a result, I'd say I'm the dominant parent. (Although, aren't most mothers?) Joe might get a bit of a bad rap at times because of that dominance but he fills his roll as Dad quite well. Since I stopped nursing, Joe is strictly on night time duty. No questions asked. B usually gets up to eat in between 4-5am and I barely blink an eye. That is Daddy and Barrett time. And I'm very certain that Bubs reserves all his big smiles for his Dad. They are also the perfect playmates.

Disregard Joe's scratched up face. A tree fell on him....Don't ask.

Aunt Rachel graduates

Not to be confused with Donna Martin graduates. (Please tell me you know what that is from?)

Our weekend last was a fun filled one, at best. We took a trip up to Pontiac so that Joe could do a little bachelor partying for Uncle Eric on Saturday. That meant that B and I were free to head over to Champaign to celebrate Aunt Rachel's graduation from UofI. (Yes, we drove from Springfield, to Pontiac, to Champaign, back to Pontiac, and back to Springfield in 2 days. That is our life.)

After a quick-ish hair appointment with my favorite stylist, we packed up the car for our trip southeast. We left at noon and didn't pull into home until 10pm that night. Ex.hausted. Barrett was a pretty great trooper though. He was absolutely beside himself while we walked around campus. He loves being outside but being able to look at so many things and see so many people was just the.best.thing.ever. We headed into Assembly Hall pretty early to stake out a spot for the ceremony. And by pretty early, I mean an hour and 15 minutes before it even started. Yeah. And the ceremony lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes. That meant that we were there for 3 1/2 hours. A 7 month olds attention span is basically non-existent so that meant I got up to walk around a hand full of times. Luckily, before the ceremony started, all the background noise was really relaxing for him. He sat still and happy for the entire hour we sat waiting for it to start. Unfortunately, listening to speeches wasn't the most entertaining thing so he and I took quite a few trips to the bathroom. Overall, though, he was so good. All day really. After the ceremony, we had a late dinner of Mexican and then hit the road back home.

Our day in pictures...

The following day was Mother's Day and I was so exhausted (plus Joe was hungover) that I got zero pictures. You win some, you lose some. We have a non-traveling weekend this weekend so Joe and I are getting babysitters (Thanks Eastons!) on Saturday for a little date night to celebrate our anniversary. So looking forward to that!

The sickness free streak has ended

7 months, 10 days old

I got the call yesterday afternoon that B woke up from his afternoon nap with his eye crusted shut. Awesome! The teachers there all agreed that it was likely pink eye. No biggie except that he has to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before he can return to school. (I totally get this rule but it's pretty sucky when you have zero family close by to help. All my vacations days are going toward sick days for B. Lame!) It was late in the day and the doctor couldn't get him in until early this morning.

Joe was closing on his current project so that meant Mommy and Barrett Day!

Wouldn't you know, Barrett decided to wake up even earlier than normal so I only got to sleep 10 extra minutes this morning. Rats! Early time aside, it was great to be able to take our time. We laid in my bed and played for a little while, then he had breakfast and we played some more. It was obvious he needed an earlier nap after that early wake-up, so he went down at 8 so that I could jump in the shower and get ready.

I should mention that although his eye was pretty "runny", it wasn't really pink or red. It was pussing pretty bad and looked like boogers where his tear ducts are. I would use a warm cloth to clean him up and without fail, they would return. It was almost like a runny nose. So off to the doctor we went. Have I mentioned that he has been in a great mood? He was such a ham in the waiting room. Dr. Murray checks him out and without any hesitation she tells me it's not pink eye.

Of course, it's not. I just wanted to waste a vacation day for no reason.

Even though it was just a sick visit, we always do a quick check up as well. Barrett was weighed (18lbs, 4oz with his clothes on. He's starting to fatten up!), she listened to his heart and then went to check his ears. Of course...ear infection. So on one hand, I was glad I didn't waste a day off. On the other, this is the second one in two months which isn't the best thing ever.

Overall, he's still in pretty good spirits. We were able to play all day which was a great break in the middle of the week. We took a trip to Target, went on a super long walk, checked out the playground and swings at the park. The weather was perfection! Unfortunately, our day ended with a complete nightmare for bed time but he eventually managed to sleep while I promptly placed my butt on the couch. I am tired.

But back to work I go tomorrow. I love that it will feel like a Monday but really be a Thursday!

Project 365: Week 19

7 months, 9 days old

05-07-12
05-07-12web
Barrett has been getting some type of finger food every day with dinner. Tonight's choice was broccoli which he actually got in his mouth. Only a few grimaces about the taste.

05-08-12
05-08-12web
I went in to get B out of bed this morning to find 1. A happy boy and 2. an opened set of pj's. Joe must have been lazy during his early morning diaper change.

05-09-12
05-09-12web
Before bed, Bubs and I did a little Mother's Day project. It got a bit messy.

05-10-12
05-10-12web
I get weekly emails on Barrett's "should be" development. This week specifically discussed bouncing and man, is it spot on. He wants to jump up and down and bend his legs and bounce constantly right now.

05-11-12
05-11-12web
The swing has about run it's course.

05-12-12
05-12-12web
Aunt Rachel graduates! We were in Assembly Hall for 3 1/2 hours and Buddy was so well behaved. I had to get up a handful of times to walk around and give him some different scenery but he handled it pretty well.

Barrett has entered the realm of crawling....backwards crawling.

05-02-12
05-02-12web
B was so entertained at daycare that he only slept 20 minutes all day. We got home at 5pm and this was him.

05-03-12
05-03-12web
The kiddo loves playing with his towels after bath.

05-04-12

This onsie was one of the first two baby items I ever bought. Disney, of course!

05-05-12
05-05-12web
We had a faux Cinco de Mayo cookout tonight that consisted of nothing Mexican and three options of deserts. Barrett was a big fan.

05-06-12
05-06-12web
Bubs must be going through a growth spurt because he is downing food like no other. 35oz of formula and another 10oz of solids a day. He would probably do more if I offered it. Such a hungry boy!
