10 months, 3 days old
Let's start with talking about picture taking. Two words: It sucks. Joe and I were seriously sweating while trying to get this months sticker pictures taken. As time has gone on, the amount of pictures I get of him are decreasing. Don't get me wrong, I'm still taking an ungodly number but it's less and less because he just doesn't sit still. If I were to use one word to describe him this month, that would be it. He's constantly on the move. On top of the crawling, he is cruising all over the place. He loves to stand up next to our coffee table and he will walk around in circles. He also will switch from the table to the couch and walk back and forth that way. His newest trick is standing completely on his own. He has done it a handful of times just in the last few days. I'm afraid we'll have a walker before we know it!
Onto my favorite topic of discussion it seems....sleep. Last month was a bit rough in this category but he's made up for it pretty well this month. We still have the random days where he wakes at 4am but that is getting pushed back further and further. Most of last week he went to sleep at 6:30 and slept until 6am. A few nights ago, he slept from 5:30 to 7 with one very short wake up to eat. He's been a rockstar in the nap category this last week too especially at daycare.
And since his schedule has adjusted yet again, here's the low down of a normal day.
6:00............Wake up and eat a 5oz bottle (usually back to sleep, maybe not)
7:00-7:45.......Up for the day, get ready, commute
7:45-8:00.......Breakfast
8:00-9:00.......Play
9:00-9:15.......5oz bottle
9:30-10:45......Nap
11:00-11:15.....Lunch
11:15-12:30.....Play
12:30-12:45.....5oz bottle
12:45-2:00......Play
2:00-4:00.......Nap
4:00-4:15.......5oz bottle
4:15-4:45.......Play
4:45-5:45.......Commute & Dinner
6:00-6:15.......3oz bottle
6:15-6:30.......Bath, books, bedtime
So he's essentially adjusted to 2 decently long naps as opposed to 3 smaller ones. I much prefer this.
The food category is going pretty strong. Little Man will eat just about anything. We introduced pancakes this month and he is absolutely obsessed. He completely shovels it in and it's really hard not to laugh. He will eat an entire medium sized one all on his own along with some fruit for breakfast. I didn't mention this last update but we are completely done with purees. The only thing he lets me feed him is greek yogurt. We started eating together at the table every night a few months ago but now it's even easier because he eats what we eat. Don't get me wrong, he's still picky almost on a nightly basis but I don't let it get to me because I know if I tried, he would eat the same thing the next night. I guess adults are like this too. Some nights I just don't feel like eating broccoli even though I like it.
While this month has been so fun in many ways, it has not been without frustration. Have I mentioned here that Barrett still has no teeth? Yep, none....still. I believe that this has been a major factor in his...shall we say...crappy mood. Two weekends ago was especially challenging as it was non-stop whining. I thought for sure we would get some teeth to pop through as a result. Alas, still none. Thankfully this past weekend, he was an angel and happy. Who knows what the deal is. B has always wanted pretty constant attention and that is still in full force. Now that he crawls, if one of us is away from him, he crawls to us, stands up and just grabs on and looks up at us. If he could say "Up", that's what he would be saying. He wants to be held or at least have someone sitting next to him while he plays. Attention seeking is a good description for him. And can we talk about how much I hate diaper changes these days? If I could pay someone just to do that for me, I would. He will not sit still. It's awful.
Now, while he has some less than stellar traits, his good traits far outweigh the bad. Joe and I are so lucky. One of the funniest things he does these days is play with faces. He used to just touch cheeks and kind of pet peoples faces. Now he full out plays with faces. He will poke eyes, mess with nostrils, and his favorite is to shove his entire hand in your mouth. If you stick your tongue out he will try to grab it and laugh and laugh because he can't quite get it.
I recently posted his monthly stats so I won't repeat myself but I want to talk a bit about Barrett's size. He is average in height and weight but we still refer to him as our chunky boy. He just looks like a tub. Who doesn't love a good thigh roll though? He is in 12 month onsies and even some 12-18 month stuff. That's a bit big still but in order to get enough wear out of it, I've been putting it in the rotation. He wears mostly 12 month bottoms but shorts are still so long on him. They will fit perfect in the waist but are essentially capris. Whatever, he's still cute.
I can't believe I haven't mentioned this in his monthly posts yet but Bubs is completely in love with the ABCs. I've been singing them to him since he was weeks old whenever he gets fussy and it's basically the thing that is our last resort to get him to stop crying. He was pretty inconsoliable, randomly at about midnight one night, and he would just lay on my shoulder while we swayed back and forth and I sang him the ABCs. As soon as I start, he calms down and closes his eyes. Unfortunately, I had to sing them for about 30 minutes straight over and over before he would let me put him back to bed. We sing them almost daily.
One of his favorite things right now is his music table. This month he has really starting interacting with all of his toys but he will always go back to his music table. He picks up the balls and sends them down the slide over and over. He loves to press the buttons and make it sing to him. He also loves his push toy. Since all he wants to do is walk and stand, it's not too surprising that these are his favorites.
And finally, I can't end this post without talking about hats...specially baseball hats. Barrett is completely beside himself when he is around a hat. If you are wearing one, specially his dad, he just squeals and squeals. I really need to get it on video because it's my favorite thing in the world. Needless to say, dad is his favorite person most of the time because he's usually wearing a hat.
Before we know it, our baby boy will be 1!
