16 week Doctor Appointment

17 weeks

This is going to be short and sweet...just like the doctor visit.

I've decided that I really enjoy going to SOGA (my doctor office) on Wednesdays shortly after lunch time. It's like a ghost town. I think there were 2 cars in the parking lot when I pulled in. I was called back after waiting for less than 5 minutes by the nurse Tracy. She's a new one to me and I think she has been my favorite so far. (Gosh, do I say this after every visit or what?) She goes over some general questions. Am I on any meds? (Still no) Any spotting or issues they should be aware of? (Another no) She compliments my clear urine. (HA! TMI!) She takes my blood pressure which is a bit lower than last visit at 100/70. I'm trying to keep track specifically of my blood pressure so I'm on the look out for pre-eclampsia. I don't have any reason to be worried about pre-e but it's in the back of my mind. I've started writing down all my stats so that I have them on hand in case I should need them at the hospital. (Obnoxious much?)

So yeah, BP was 100/70. I was really anxious to get to the sono part of my appointment so I was a little surprised that my BP was low. Luckily, next up was the sonogram. Tracy found the heartbeat immediately (sigh of relief) and it was a strong 154 bpm. Last visit was 163bpm but it's normal to see the gradual decrease like that. Next thing, Tracy weighed me. Up 1 pound from my 12 week appointment, but technically still down 1 pound from my starting weight. I'll take it but the weight "loss" has zero bearing on how well I'm doing. I figure I just have a better chance to gain a hell of a lot in the second half of my pregnancy.

Dr. Bennett came in shortly for a few more quick questions. (It's here that I have to admit that I lied a bit to her.) She said I could schedule my next appointment and the BIG 20 week ultrasound anytime between 20 and 21 weeks. I told her I was leaving on May 27 for vacation and wouldn't be home for 9 days. She was cool with that and said she would set it up sometime May 25-27 which would make me 19 weeks, 6 days so that I would have it done before we left! :) Technically, we will be traveling to Pontiac that weekend for Memorial Day but I will be back home for 24 hours before leaving for vacation to Disney. I could have tried to get the ultrasound the day after Memorial day but I was hoping we would get to find out before Memorial day weekend. I get to the desk to schedule my appointment and the receptionist chick (Adelle, she has your same engagement ring..but anyways..) said she had no openings on my days but that since Dr. Bennett put a special note, she would squeeze me in. HOLLA!

So we're all set to find out if Baby Rufio is a Boy or a Girl! I can't get too excited about our doctor appointment since we technically won't be finding out until the day after our visit. The plan is to have the tech put the gender in an envelope to be opened the following day at a friends cookout we are having. We may be nuts but I'm really excited to find out if we will be having a boy or girl at the same time as some of our friends. This also means we can get our reaction on video which, if I'm being honest, is a leading factor in doing it this way. :)

So like I said, pretty short and sweet appointment. (Maybe not so much on the blog entry but what else is new?) Other than our next visit for the 20 week, all my visits should be pretty similar to this one.

3 weeks, 2 days

  1. It means the receptionist has great taste! ha! Maybe you won't gain all the weight some people do? Most doctors say 15 pounds is just fine..and you'll start gaining a pound a week towards the end. :)

I better type my name so people don't get confused..
