Sleep: This section is becoming a bit redundant. We had a stint of a few days where Bubs woke up a few times in the middle of the night pretty inconsolable but otherwise things are exactly the same. Bed at 6:30 at night, quick feed at 5am then back asleep till 7am. Barrett also takes 3 hour-ish long naps during the day. I know that some people think our rigid schedule is well...rigid but it works. If you waver from that schedule (ahem, Joe), B is sure to fight his nap or be a whiney, annoying boy. No one wants that so schedule it is.

Food: I should probably list what B doesn't eat rather than what he does because that might be a shorter list. Some more recent eats this month are mangos, rice, blueberries, ham and turkey slices, apricot, spinach, BBQ chicken, watermelon and more. He really likes everything. (Shocking I'm sure by the looks of his cheeks.) When Barrett first puts food in his mouth, he always gives a pretty disgusted look, but then he gets used to it and will try some more. Puffs are a sure fire way to distract him and keep him entertained. Besides the finger foods, he's a big fan of purees. He really loves all the Plum Organic squeeze packs so that he can help feed himself. Barrett averages about 12oz of purees a day along with his finger foods with each meal. He does not go hungry!

No official doctor visit this month but we do have an ear check appointment scheduled for today. Speaking of ear checks, B had his second ear infection during his 7th month. At his sick visit, he weighed in at 18 pounds, 4 ounces which included his diaper and clothes but I would imagine that he is pretty close to 18 pounds. All this food is helping him move up in the charts. Chunky boy is a very fitting nickname.

A big change happening this month is that Bubs has one more full day at his current daycare. We have been on the waitlist at our #1 choice daycare for a very long time and the spot is finally opened for him. I actually thought we wouldn't get placed until he was a year old but a space opened up and he begins on Monday. It was weird giving notice to his teachers because they have been with him for so long. It hasn't been a big secret that his current place isn't my favorite but I know that Barrett really likes it there and is comfortable. It makes me hesitant to remove him from that but I know keeping him there for longer will make it even worse and in the end this place is better for him to learn and develop.

Our great car rider seemed to have gotten lost. 3 trips in a row now to Pontiac, he has screamed for a long time. If he doesn't get constant entertainment, he is not happy. The ride would always put him to sleep but we cannot bank on that anymore. We used to plan nap time around our trip and instead he fights and fights it. I have learned that the ABCs will make him stop whining in .2 seconds. On our way home last Sunday, I'm pretty sure I sang it over and over for 20 minutes straight. Good times.

I mentioned last month that B is sitting unassisted. He is a pro now and I've started to notice that when we walk up to him, he will raise his arms in the air as if asking us to pick him up. It is the cutest! I'm sure eventually it will start to get annoying but it makes me happy to see him wanting me. Joe wants me to mention that he is waving. Now, I'm not quite sure we can classify it as that but Joe thinks he saw him wave to Grandpa Bob one morning. We are trying to emphasize the Hi's and Bye's so he can understand the concept. Another thing he is doing this month is transferring objects from one hand to another. Food, toys, books, what have you. He has also started banging toys together when he holds them in his hands.

004

Since mastering sitting, I have been working on getting Barrett to hold himself on his hands and knees. If I place his knee correctly, he will hold it there for a long time. He rocks back and forth and smiles. He is so proud of himself.

During his 6th month, I mentioned Bubs went for his first dip in the swimming pool. Well during this month, he went for his first swim in an outdoor pool. I was afraid that he wouldn't like the cold water but it seemed to have no affect on him. He was a bit whiney when he first got in but Joe decided to dunk him pretty much right away so he was not happy about it. I whisked him off to nap and he woke up later on the right side of the bed and was very happy to be in the pool. I think it helped that the Saxtons, Maschings, Aunt Rachel and Grandma and Grandpa E were there to give him constant entertainment and attention. Who wouldn't love to swim and play with all those playmates?

He is growing too dang fast. Birthday party planning is already in full swing.
