Car seats

1 year, 4 months, 18 days old

We moved B from his infant seat to the convertible seat (Britax Marathon) when he was about 8 months old. There was no question that we would go with a Britax for in my car because it is, in my opinion, the best. $$$$$ but the best. Barrett rides in my car to and from daycare every day. We drive my car to and from Pontiac and basically everywhere because it gets the best mileage so it was important that we have a good carseat for it. However, Joe's SUV is used very minimal. B is in it maybe once a month for the 5 minute drive home from daycare so I knew we wouldn't go with the expensive Britax for it. Until now, (so for 9 months) he's used the infant seat in the SUV. We went with the Graco Snugride 35 so technically we could continue to use it for another 7+ pounds but it's a tight squeeze for Barrett. So we finally installed the Cosco Scenera and Bubs got his inaugural ride yesterday. It took Joe forever to install so it doesn't seem to be incredibly user friendly. We are still rear-facing (and will be until age 2) but it looks like it will be a bit easier once he is forward facing. The straps are really thin and flimsy which I wasn't expecting. However, the safety ratings on consumer reports are very good and there are a few reasons why I specifically chose the Scenera. With vacations in mind, we needed a seat that would travel well. This seat is very thin and is recommended for airplane seats. Technically, he wouldn't need a carseat in the airplane (we could get a CARES harness) but if we need a seat once we arrive at our destination (for car rides), it was important to have a small, lightweight option. This one is less than 10 lbs, compared to the big bulky, 30 lb Britax. That alone, and the fact that it's not even $40 means it's a good option for our second seat.

Barrett approved.
