30 weeks, 2 days
This weeks doctor appointment was really uneventful....just your average checkup. I was called back into the room and the nurses did the normal routine. First, Brittany checked my weight. Zero pounds gained from two weeks ago, so still going strong with a 10 pound gain in 30 weeks. Next up was my blood pressure which came out to 120/80 which is a perfect normal, although a bit high for me. Urine had no protein or sugars so all was well there. Lastly, we got to hear his heartbeat which was strong at 141bpm. Then, out she went to get Dr. Bennett.
Dr. B came in and we talked a bit about my GD progress. My first week was "great" according to my endocrinologist so Dr. Bennett was glad to hear that. I let her know what my average readings were throughout the day so she could add them to my chart. She was happy to hear things were going well but she made sure to reassure me that if I had to go on insulin, it would be no big deal. Whatever we had to do to keep baby safe is OKAY. It was good to hear. I've been giving myself a hard time every time my readings are high but I need to convince myself that insulin doesn't mean bad. Luckily, I haven't had a high reading in almost a week so if I keep this up, it will be a moot point anyway.
She also brought up the dreaded epidural question to add to my chart. I was kind of hoping to avoid the whole topic of discussion with her because she really had no part in it but I understand she needs to be aware of my decision. I let her know I would like to try to avoid meds but since I've obviously never done this before, I have no idea how I'm going to be able to handle everything. My ultimate goal is to avoid a c-section so we pretty much just left it at that.
I set up my next appointment for two weeks where we get to check out the babe another time. I thought it might be my last ultrasound but she said that we will for sure do one at my 36 week appointment to keep an eye on the size of the baby. Once I hit 36 weeks, we will then transition to weekly appointments where each week I will bounce between having another ultrasound and doing a non-stress test. Depending on my progress, I may have to go more than once a week starting at 37 weeks. It all depends on the ultrasounds and NSTs.
So, yeah. Lots and lots more tests but I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that things keep as the "status quo."
