Nursery progress #2

29 weeks, 6 days

It has been an eventful couple of weeks with progress in the nursery. Actually more like an eventful couple of days but anyways...

A few Sundays ago, Joe and I were up and bored before 9am so we decided to get ready for the day and do a little window shopping. Joe had to go to Dicks and we both wanted to check out the new sports merchandise store, Scheels, that opened up recently in Springfield. We pull into the Scheels parking lot at 9:30, only to realize that they do not open until 10:00. Doh! (Since when did we become those people?!?) We figured the mall would be open though so we headed to the other side of town to Dicks only to find that it was in fact...not open. (Note to self: check these things before leaving the house next time.) No biggie though as it was just about 10:00 so we sat on a bench watching the mall walkers, playing Words with Friends, waiting for the door to open. Joe got his things and we still had a bit of time to kill before lunch so we went to, The Mecca, also known as Target. The problem with going to Target for no particular reason is that you walk out spending $100 on random things that you didn't realize you needed.

Anywaaaaaaays. Why does this have to do with the nursery, you ask?

I had been meaning to get picture frames for some of the artwork and it just so happened that the decor section was loaded with green/blue items. I was able to get picture frames and a pillow for the futon. We both really liked one of the lamps (Joe, of course, preferred the green one, I loved the turquoise one) but we don't REALLY need one so we decided to skip it this trip.

This past weekend while we were in the suburbs, we hit up IKEA. I would call the trip a success. Our main purpose was to pick up the dresser but we also got 2 wall shelves, a few more picture frames and a bunch of yards of fabric. I plan on using the fabric to make panels of curtains but I'm starting to second guess my sewing ability. I may try to pawn this project on a real pro.

On Sunday, after a very long day of travel, Joe obliged my asking and put together the new dresser for me. Monday, he installed the wall shelves, but this time with begging from me. Tuesday, I put up the art and picture frames and new "mobile." Quite the busy week!

Now onto the good stuff....Pictures!

View from the doorway. I'm hoping to find at least 2-3 more pillows for the futon.

My DIY artwork and IKEA picture frames.
028

I ordered the art from Shutterfly and was very happy with the quality.
033

I found the fabric at IKEA. (They have the best patterns!) I'm planning to make two long panels that will flank the artwork on each side.
034

Each window will have one panel but they will be wide enough to cover the entire window.

The makeshift mobile

We still need the mattress, sheets and crib skirt (which will be solid gray)

Dresser and shelves are from IKEA. On top of the dresser will be a navy changing pad and a basket for wipes, lotion, diaper cream, etc.
046

The shelves are the biggest work in progress. I'm hoping to add a stuffed animal or two and all his books. Otherwise, we already have some more etsy art, a picture of us and our video monitor.

This is the boring corner.
051

I had to do something so I switched out the pictures for my favorite ultrasound ones.

Still need list:
Drapes
Curtain rods
pillows for the futon
Mattress
Sheets
Crib skirt
changing pad for dresser
changing pad cover
tub/basket to put on top of dresser
accessories for shelves

I think I'll have one more nursery post in the coming weeks with the final room so stay tuned!
