Day in the Life: 9.30.12

11 months, 25 days old

I did one of these posts back in the spring and my goal is to continue doing so every 6 months or so. I like reading back to random days in our life. This represents a normal weekend day when we spend it at home.

5:25am: Barrett wakes and wants to eat. Joe gets him and brings him into bed with us. He scarfs down a 4oz bottle and is happy. He would love to stay with us but there is no way he will sleep so back to his crib, he goes. He lays there checking things out and eventually falls asleep.

7:30am: Kiddo starts making some noise and is ready to be up. Nice! He's been sleeping later than normal this last week and we are fans. Joe gets him, changes his diaper and he comes back and crawls around in our bed for a few.

7:40am: All up. Joe starts making breakfast which is our normal weekend day routine. I make the bed and straighten up a bit. Try to corral the little man out of the kitchen because all he wants to do is bug Dad.

1

7:50am: We eat. Scrambled eggs, pancakes and grapes for B. Cheese omelet for Mom. Cheese, meat, hot sauce, random crap omelet for Dad.

2

7:55am: Barrett is crazy happy this morning.

8:15am: Clean up and since the kiddo made a mess of himself, he hops in the shower with me.

9:00am: After we're finished, he runs around naked for a bit. That can't last long so I wrestle him to get clothes on. Red, white and blue in honor the Ryder Cup, of course! I get ready and try to entertain him while Joe jumps in the shower. We make a grocery list and pack his bag for errands.

9:30am: We're all ready to go but we have some time to kill before some stores open so I empty the dishwasher, reload it and start it again, clean the kitchen, start a load of laundry. Joe and Barrett play.

9:50am: Off to Springfield to run some errands. Party City to get some supplies for his birthday party on Saturday, Bed Bath and Beyond for a shower gift and grocery store.

10:00am: We're almost there and it's apparent that Bubs would like a bottle. We're currently trying to wean him off formula and he's doing pretty well. He hasn't had a night time bottle in almost a week and yesterday, he only took 3 bottles as opposed to his normal 5. He chugs the 3 oz.

10:55am: We've hit Party City and BBB. Both employees checking us out say "Wow, he sure is identical to Dad." Yes, yes he is. We head back to Chatham for groceries and get a few minutes away and it's apparent that B cannot wait longer to nap. He's not fussy but is dozing off. If he falls asleep in the car, then a real nap in his bed is impossible so we skip the store and head home early.

8

11:00am: I lay him in bed and he's out within seconds. I normally try to get stuff done during this time but I cleaned the whole house yesterday so I decide to lay on the couch and watch the tee off for the Ryder Cup. GO USA!

11:15am: Get out my computer, check Facebook, read a few blogs, then start to edit pictures from this week for my 365 blog post.

9

12:15pm: He's still sleeping which is pretty good for him so I write my 365 post and get it scheduled to post on Tuesday.

12:20pm: Joe's made a pizza for lunch. We normally eat all together but it looks like Barrett is having an extra good nap so we'll eat without him.

10

12:40pm: Still not awake. I load the pictures I've taken today for this post and edit them. Still laying on the couch, watching golf. This seems so luxurious during the day time. I usually only get to do this stuff after bed time.

1:00pm: STILL sleeping. I guess I should have taken advantage and gotten some staining done.

1:15pm: A whine comes from the video monitor. But doesn't make a move. Maybe he's adjusting himself to one nap. He never does this.

11

1:28pm: Finish writing what I can for this post and I finally hear the kid rolling around in bed. Shut down my computer because it can't be out while he is awake.

12

1:30pm: Joe changes his diaper. He actually sits still while he messes with the diaper cream container. I can already tell that nap will be amazing for his behavior. I get his lunch ready.

13

1:45pm: Lunch today is turkey slices, mangoes, greek yogurt and craisins. He gets spoiled today during meals because we let him sit on the floor so I can still watch golf. I check Instagram (I'm obsessed.)

14

2:00pm: Joe empties the dishwasher while the boy is corralled. It's the only way we get to do it in peace.

2:10pm: Still eating (he takes forever) I change into comfies and remember to switch over the laundry. Throw in some towels.

2:15pm: B and Dad play blocks while I wash a few lunch dishes and get tomorrows bottles ready for daycare. I take out the garbage.

15

2:40pm: Joe and I are pretty interested in the Ryder Cup. B runs around playing. He's extra happy today which is really weird. He climbs on me while I lay on the floor. He does fish face with Dad. Mostly, we try to preoccupy him and keep him entertained enough so we can still watch golf. (Awesome parents, we are!)

16

3:30pm: Time for a snack. Some milk in a sippy and a graham cracker.

4:00pm: Diaper change and new onsie since he destroyed his shirt after his snack. He made it pretty far for only just now needing a clothing change.

4:15pm: Story time and nap. Hoping I can get 30 minutes out of him.

18

4:20pm: Fold 2 loads of clothes and put them away. Pick up the toys, windex our stupid coffee table (Joe won't let me move it to the basement.) Then add new pillows we got at BBB today to our bed. Ours are really flat and deformed so we bought fluffy ones.

19

4:50pm: Start dinner. Scream at the golf matches.

20

5:15pm: Lots more screaming, jumping and pacing. Can't believe B is sleeping through this.

5:30pm: USA lost but I almost don't care. That was some amazing golf regardless! Dinner is ready so Joe goes and wakes up Barrett. Since we didn't make it to the grocery store, I had to put together whatever we had. Baked pork chops and fried potatoes. Little man gets some peach slices and a string cheese, too.

21

5:55pm: Clean up dinner. Joe heads to the store (so glad I got out of that one!) while Bubs and I take our almost daily walk.

22

6:40pm: We take the long way around the park because it's so nice out. We're late with bedtime but since his nap was so late, I knew he wouldn't be ready at his normal 6:30. We get home and no Joe yet. I sit on the floor while B sits on my lap and plays with my face. I name all the parts while he jabs my cheeks and nose and mouth.

6:45pm: Fresh diaper and jammies on. I turn on the tunes and get B to dance.

7:00pm: Time for books. It should be Dad's night but he's still not home. He doesn't seem tired but doesn't fight me when I lay him down either.

25

7:05pm: Notice that Amazing Race has started on the channel the tv was on. Great, now I will get sucked in and want to watch the new season.

7:10pm: Wash a few remaining dinner dishes. Still no Joe. That means he had to have gone to the Eastons. B starts randomly moaning on the monitor.

7:20pm: Joe is home. (He did go to the Eastons...no surprise there.) We empty the bags and I start getting stuff together to make cupcakes and frosting. I'm doing a trial run for his party on Saturday. Find out that I don't have oil for the cake but I decide to do the frosting and I'll do the cupcakes tomorrow. I'm more worried about the frosting anyway. Check Pinterest for the recipe. Get side tracked.

7:35pm: Start frosting but first I run into B's room to get my camera. I thought he was asleep, didn't even check the monitor. He's NOT asleep. He rolls over and just watches me. Not a peep.

8:00pm: Still mixing frosting. This whipping business takes forever. AND B is still awake, squaking strangely on the monitor.

8:08pm: B is now screaming. Joe handles it.

8:11pm: Not handling it well, apparently.

23

8:20pm: He's back to bed after Joe rocks him for a minute. I finish the frosting. It tastes good!

24

8:30pm: Still moaning

8:35pm: Set up the DVR to play some Kardashians and get to finishing this blog post.

26

9:00pm: Realize that the kid is finally asleep.

10:35pm: Finally finish uploading, editing pictures, renaming, organizing in correct folder, uploading to flickr, writing said post, transferring pictures, uploading videos to you tube and then uploading them into post. Final edit, then schedule to post in the morning. PHEW! This blogging business takes a lot of work. I also watched the first reunion episode of New Jersey housewives so that keeps me working a bit slower than normal.

10:45pm: Crawl into bed. Before signing out I must check all my social media sites. It's a bad habit but I can't sleep without mentally checking out like that. (It's so sad and ridiculous, I know.)

10:58pm: Sleep is calling!

For those keeping track, that was only 2 bottles today! They are almost gone!

  1. Awesome! I love this post! I might have to steal your idea and do it one day! I can't believe Barrett will be 1 soon. He's so adorable!
