Pardise by the Dashboard LIGHT

1 year, 19 days old

Who doesn't love Meatloaf, I say.

When we bought our house last Fall, the exterior lights that came with the house were ugly. I don't even remember the shape or style but they were rusted over and gross. I'm very much a cheapskate though. They worked so we're keeping them until we started to work on the front of the house. I was almost 9 months pregnant and the ugly outside lights were so far on the bottom of the To-Do list.

Or so I thought.

Labor Day weekend, I had to travel home to Pontiac but Joe needed to get some more renovations done on the house so he stayed in Chatham. I had a nice weekend (what would be my last in town until after Baby B was born) and Joe knocked out painting a few rooms and you guessed it....installing new exterior lights.

That's kinda how Joe works. He gets something in his head and he wants to do it. He did the same thing when he decided to install automatic lights for when you walk down the basement steps (no need to manually flip the light switch) or when he installed piping to constantly circulate hot water throughout the house so that no matter where we are in the house, it had hot water immediately.

Anyways...I'm rambling. Joe likes random projects.

I came home after the holiday and as soon as I pulled in the driveway, I noticed the new lights. They were plain, simple, not very attractive but not really ugly either. So we had new lights. Whatever.

Back to present day, we needed to pick out a light for out on the deck. I found one that I liked but instead of installing it in the back where no one but us would see it, we decided to put the new light out front and install one of our old lights in the back. Eventually, we will get them all to match.

I found this old picture from when we first moved in and it's pretty accurate. We've removed some of the excess landscaping and cleaned things up but otherwise, still the same. Save for the new light.

Our spring project for next year will be the front of the house. You can see that there are accents of black in the brick so we are following that along in our changes. We already painted the front door black, which you can't see much of since we still have the storm door. Besides the new black lights, we will paint the shutters black and probably move them to the bedroom window on the right.

After: Much better

You can see that the light is not quite symmetrical between the windows and door because of the shutters so I think I'll like it better if we moved them. Regardless, the shutters are getting painted black. Painting the garage door and trim is also happening. TBD on color.

It never ends, but slowly we'll get there.

  1. UGH I hate house projects. Brandon started a bunch 2 years ago and NEVER finished them. He claims they will be done before Christmas. We'll see.
