House progress report: Week 1

As I'm writing this, it's been exactly 1 week since we've gotten into the house. I've been keeping notes of everything we've accomplished each day for record sake. It's exhausting just reading the lists.


Day 1: Friday
removed kitchen cabinet doors and hardware
removed curtain rods and hardware
tapped and draped kitchen to prepare the cabinets for paint
Peeled/scraped damaged drywall in the great room
prepped all baseboards for paint
vacuumed
scrubbed inside and outside of fridge and stove
removed all switch plate covers





The wood grain is not our style. There was no question we would be painting the cabinets.





Day 2: Saturday
removed blinds
sanded and spray painted the kitchen cabinets and doors
mudded damaged walls in great room
dusted the ceilings and light fixtures
mopped kitchen floor
painted all the ceilings
cleaned all doors and mouldings
cleaned mantle









Day 3: Sunday
spray painted all the baseboards and doors & casings
painted mantle and half wall cap
put kitchen cabinet doors and hardware back on
mudded damaged walls

I didn't take a before picture of the half wall cap in the kitchen but here is the after. Disregard the dust. It's impossible to keep the place clean during all this work.



Day 4: Monday
final coat of paint on baseboards, doors and door casings.
mudded more walls
installed rest of kitchen cabinet doors and hardware
replaced hall bathroom electrical switch



The walls were a total disaster.


The back bedroom walls were the worst. It appeared the kids used it as a dart board.



Day 5: Tuesday
replaced the sad excuse of a mailbox
installed shelves in kitchen cabinets
painted nursery window casing and window frame







Day 6: Wednesday
painted nursery walls (this deserves it's own post)


Overall, not too shabby for one week of work. The pictures don't show much of a transformation yet but everything we've accomplished so far has been a huge improvement. We took the night off tonight (Joe did end up going there to add some more concrete to the mailbox post) and we won't be back at it until Sunday night since we are traveling this weekend. Lots more to accomplish before move in!
